How to Submit a Sitemap XML to google search engine

1 What is a Sitemap XML?

A Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site. It allows webmasters to include additional information about each URL: when it was last updated, how often it changes, and how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site. This allows search engines to crawl the site more intelligently.

2 What is the importance of Sitemap XML?

When we create a website, one of the most common question is how to list your site in search engines like Google. When ever I talk to newbies who are not aware of how search engine works, they think that they need to pay to Google or other search engine to list their Website in Google. This is is not true, as you can show your Website in Google search for free. The only thing you need to work upon is help Google find your blog. I have already shared my case-study on how to index your new website in 24 hour, and in this guide I will talk extensively about submitting your site map to Google webmaster tool.

Google Webmaster tool (GWT) is a free tool which let you control your website from search engine perspective. I will not get into detail about GWT as I have already covered it before. If you have missed it, here is the first article to get you started.

3 How to submit sitemap xml to Google Webmaster tool

Now, let see how to submit sitemap to google step-by-step:

Step 1: First, you have to create a sitemap xml by going ot "XML Sitemap for Blogger" , and past your Blogger Url inside the box and then click "Generate Sitemap".

Step 2: Once you create xml, go to Webmaster tool  and go to Add/Test Sitemap, past your XML Sitemap in the box. 

Step 3: Click Submit Sitemap

Step 4: After submitting the Sitemap, you have to go to Blogger Dashboard >> Setting >> Search Preferences>> Custom robots.txt >>Edit >> Yest and past the Sitemap xml which you have created in the previous into the box.

Step 5: Click Save changes.
